Chirano hosts ‘Working at Heights’ workshop for employees

Kinross Chirano’s Engineering Department recently hosted a ‘Working at Heights’ workshop to train employees on proper health and safety protocols and potential hazards associated with working in these conditions.

The workshop included employees from Plant, HSE and Construction teams for classroom sessions and real-time emergency simulations to test employee’s ability to perform in high-pressure situations.

The training reviewed standard operating procedures including securing climbing equipment and accurately applying a climbing harness, including how to secure your harness while working. Participants then chose a simulation relevant to their operation where an ‘accident’ related to working at heights occurred and employee’s had to mitigate potential injuries.

As a result, employees learned new safety techniques for working at heights while refreshing their current understanding of accident prevention.

“This workshop is an opportunity to test our employee’s knowledge and find areas of improvement if necessary,” said Kodua Dapaah, HSE Manager, Chirano. “We are confident in our teams’ abilities to work safely, but there is always room to grow. Safety training is a continuous process that cannot be stopped at any time, and this workshop was an excellent reminder of that.”
