Chirano wins national safety awards in Ghana

Congratulations to our Chirano mine, which has once again scooped up several national safety awards in Ghana.

The 2016 Ghana Mining Industry Awards, held by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Inspectors from the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and St. John Ambulance, were announced at the National Mine Safety Day celebrations on November 5th, and broadcast on national television.

Chirano’s 2016 awards include:

  • Best Mine Team for Safety & First Aid
  • Best Mine Safety & First Aid Team Manager – Koduah Dapaah, Health and Safety Manager
  • Best Improved Mine
  • Best Mine based on Occupational Injury Statistics, third place
  • Best Mine based on Health, Safety and Environmental Audit, third place

Chirano’s achievements are even more impressive when you take into account Ghana’s large mining industry, with several large mines operating in the country.

"I am extremely proud of the great performance from our health and safety team and the entire site. These awards are a result of hard work on a daily basis,” said Ken Norris, Vice-President and General Manager, Chirano. “This recognition helps show that we take every precaution to ensure we have a safe work environment.”

“As we celebrate this feat, we will also continue to work harder to maintain and grow our safety culture,” said ‘Best Mine Safety & First Aid Team Manager’ winner Koduah Dapaah, Health and Safety Manager, Chirano.
