Fall Protection Training Reaches New Heights

Nine Kinross safety employees from across our North American sites came together in Poulsbo, Washington to take part in a training course about how to reduce the risk of falls in the workplace.

The course, run by Gravitec, a world leader in the fall protection industry, taught the team many preventative measures that included a technique to reduce in-house falls called the ‘Fall Protection Hierarchy of Controls’. The steps include eliminating tasks and areas around the mine site that could expose a worker to a fall and taking preventative action such as adding handrails or physical barriers in places where there is a higher risk.

Kinross’ safety team was then able to take the skills they learned in the classroom and put them to the test in the field during the training session.

“The classes gave us all even more technical knowledge and resources to aid in the prevention of falls in the workplace,” said Cory Bodyfelt, Director, Health and Safety, North and South America. “It is extremely important to constantly be upgrading skills and learning the newest techniques in safety. If a worker does fall, we have the right skill set and knowledge to help that employee.”
