Kinross launches 2018 Corporate Responsibility Report Supplement

This week, we launched our 2018 Corporate Responsibility (CR) Data Supplement, providing an update on our CR efforts across the Company. We continue to meet or exceed our high standards for CR in key areas including health and safety, environmental protection and delivering on commitments to our stakeholders.

Below are some key 2018 performance highlights:

Health and Safety:

  • Set a new Kinross record for safety performance with a Total Reportable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) of 0.27, an 18% improvement over 2017
  • Remained one of the safest companies in our sector

Environment:

  • Completed 2018 with zero production impacts arising from environmental performance
  • Delivered on all site level targets for permitting, water management and concurrent reclamation
  • Received third-party reviews confirming the safety of all of Kinross’ active and inactive tailings facilities, and expanded our tailings independent technical review from one expert to three
  • Received the top ranking from the World Wildlife Fund Russia’s Environmental Transparency Ranking of Russian mining and metals companies for environmental management and transparency
  • Reduced annualized CO2 emissions by 10,000 tonnes/year due to energy efficiency projects and CO2 emissions per tonne processed is significantly lower than peer average

​Community:

  • Reached an estimated 834,000 beneficiaries in host communities through community programs and initiatives
  • $3 billion spent in our host countries through local procurement, wages and tax payments
  • Reached approximately 94,000 stakeholders through interactions associated with community dialogue and consultations  
  • 98% of our workforce is comprised of people living within the host country

Governance:

  • Achieved the highest ranking among mining companies in the Globe and Mail 2018 annual corporate governance survey with a score of 92/100
