Kinross-sponsored medical supplies arrive in Mauritania

The latest shipment of life-saving medical supplies arrived at Tasiast in August.

Since partnering with U.S.-based non-profit organization Project C.U.R.E. in 2012, eight containers full of medical equipment have been donated to Mauritania. This medical equipment is worth more than $3.6 million and have been distributed to 30 healthcare facilities in the communities around Tasiast.

The medical supplies and equipment from this latest delivery, including ultrasound machines, electrocardiograms, beds, office furniture and wheelchairs, went to four local health centres.

Dr. Mohamed Ould Waddady, Regional Director for Health initiatives in Mauritania, thanked Kinross: “These donations will provide vital support for the health centres in our communities and will improve patient care. We are grateful for the efforts by Kinross and Project C.U.R.E.”

“We are all working together with a single goal in mind – to improve healthcare for Mauritanians. This program is a great example of Kinross’ commitment to responsible mining by generating a positive impact wherever we operate and providing long-term benefits to countries that host us,” said Mike Sylvestre, Regional Vice-President, Africa.
