Round Mountain constructs rope shovel for Phase W

Our Round Mountain mine in Nevada has been a busy place since the go-ahead on the Phase W expansion last fall.

One of the latest additions to the site is the CAT 7495 Electric Shovel. This is the second shovel of its kind at Round Mountain which was purchased to increase the production and efficiency of Phase W.

“During the Phase W feasibility study, we concluded we would need to increase capacity of our loading units to proceed with the project,” said Bryon Bisiaux, Mine Manager, Round Mountain. “The new CAT rope shovels have been a great investment. By combining their capabilities with an increased haulage fleet, we can meet required production targets for Phase W.”

After the announcement to proceed with Phase W, the team started construction on the shovel in early November and worked tirelessly to ensure it was complete and ready for mid-March.

The shovel is currently in operation and was completed without any injuries.

Round Mountain Phase W expects to add approximately 1.5 million gold ounces to the life of mine and extend mining operations by five years.
