Round Mountain launches fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis

Round Mountain staff, families and the community came together to support a new Cystic Fibrosis (CF) fundraising event to help local families. Fifty-five participants and 27 volunteers took part in the two-day event in October, which included a 5k run and an extreme hike.

Vicente Ramirez, Lean Facilitator, Deanna Hall, Processing Training Supervisor, and Ranay Guifarro, Community Relations Coordinator, were instrumental in organizing the event, rounding up volunteers and raising money.

The first annual fundraiser exceeded expectations by raising US$3,500 from community donations, with Round Mountain matching all proceeds for a total of US$7,000. Donations will be given to the Nevada chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help families fighting the disease and support research campaigns to find a cure.

“There are many people in the Round Mountain community that have been impacted by this disease. The money raised will help families pay for life-saving medications and multi-disciplinary medical care from physicians to dieticians,” said Deanna.

CF is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting North American children and young adults, with no known cure. There are 30,000 people living with the disease in the U.S. and 70,000 people world-wide.

“Thank you Kinross for believing in the cause, supporting local families and helping to find a cure,” said Vicente, the event founder. “We plan to raise the bar next year.”
