Tasiast Projects Team Recognized with Top Kinross Safety Award

The Tasiast Projects Team recently won the 2013 Kinross Safety award for having the most improved Total Reportable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) and Severity Rate (SR) over a three-year period. The annual Kinross Safety Award recognizes excellence in health and safety performance during the previous year.

The Team, which is dedicated to the Tasiast expansion project, has seen a significant decrease in its TRIFR – from 1.38 in 2011 to 0.30 in 2013.

At the same time, the Team has had just one Lost Time Injury (LTI) over the last two years. It’s a impressive achievement considering the group worked 11,000 hours and with over 3,000 contractors from around the world during that period.

The Team also implemented several high-risk health and safety training programs for local Mauritanians, creating a safety culture at a time when the Region was new to the mining industry.

Dan Snodgress (Vice-President and General Manager, Tasiast) and Patrick Hickey (Regional Vice-President, Africa) accepted the award on behalf of the Tasiast Projects Team at the 2014 Living Our Values Awards (LOVA) gala celebration in Toronto.
