Tasiast receives visit from National Committee of EITI in Mauritania

A delegation representing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) recently visited Tasiast to gain a better understanding of the mine and Kinross’ operations in Mauritania.

The EITI operates in over 40 countries and aims to provide the global standard on open and accountable management of resources in the oil, gas and mineral industries.

Mohamed Lemine Ould Ahmedous, Chairman of the EITI Committee and an advisor to the Prime Minister of Mauritania, headed the delegation that brought together representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, NGOs, trade unions and several journalists to cover the visit.

“Thank you Tasiast for hosting this delegation on an informative, successful mine visit,” said Mohamed Lemine Ould Ahmedous, Chairman of the EITI Committee and advisor to the Prime Minister of Mauritania. “This was an excellent opportunity to understand the operations at Tasiast and discover the socio-cultural climate, dedication and professionalism of the Company.”

El Bastamy Oumar Daoud, Director of Services, Tasiast, Brahim M’Bareck, Vice-President, External Relations, Tasiast, Hapsatou Ball, Community Relations Manager, Tasiast and Ahmed Said, Government Relations Manager, Tasiast, led the two-day event that brought the delegation around the mine including the pit, tailings ponds, treatment plants, clinics and fire stations to gain a better understanding of our operations.

The event concluded with meetings between the delegation and our senior leaders to discuss and provide recommendations on the future of Tasiast in terms of safety, expansion, production, and local employment.
