Fort
Knox recently partnered with Trout Unlimited to sponsor the second annual armed
services fly-fishing appreciation trip for members of the United States
military.
“It’s
always a pleasure to collaborate with Kinross, especially for an event with
such a great cause,” said Jenny Weiss, Communications Director, Trout
Unlimited, Alaska. “Kinross has demonstrated a high level of commitment to
environmental safeguards with respect to the fisheries at Fort Knox, and this
is a great opportunity to showcase their hard work in conserving cold water
fisheries in Alaska.”
Twelve
active duty and veteran military members attended the weeklong excursion where
they hiked through the scenic remote streams and interior rivers of Alaska to
receive fly-fishing ‘catch and release’ training in hopes of finding an Arctic
grayling!
“This
trip is an excellent opportunity to provide our military members with a peaceful
activity while taking in the scenic Alaska wilderness,” said Anna Atchison, External Affairs Manager, Fort Knox. “We have received positive
feedback from attendees on the benefits from this trip including lifetime
friendships, learning a new skill and positive impacts on their mental health.”
Kinross recently received the 2019 Corporate Conservation Award from Trout Unlimited.
