Kinross Gold CEO and Tasiast delegation attend 2025 Mauritanides Conference in Nouakchott

October 27, 2025

This September, Paul Rollinson, CEO, Kinross Gold, and a delegation from Kinross Tasiast attended the 2025 Mauritanides Conference in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The seventh annual Mauritanides conference is the region’s largest international mining, oil & gas and clean energy show dedicated to seeking new opportunities and perspectives to continue driving the industries forward.

This year’s conference was attended by several notable government officials including the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Prime Minister of the Government of Mauritania, H.E. Mokhtar Ould Diay, Minister of Mines and Industry of Mauritania, H.E. Thiam Tidjani and the Minister of Energy and Petroleum of Mauritania, H.E. Mohamed Ould Khaled.

At the exhibition, members of the Kinross Tasiast delegation including Baba Salihi, Vice-President, External Relations, Tasiast, and Mahmoudy Kemal, External Relations Manager, Tasiast, were pleased to welcome the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to the Kinross booth to discuss Kinross’ major achievements in Mauritania and plans for the future as we continue to demonstrate our commitment to the development of the country.

On the second day of the conference, Paul Rollinson provided a keynote address titled ‘Showcasing Mauritania as a Mining Investment Destination in Africa’ where he spoke to our success with the Tasiast mine, which contributes approximately 30% of our global portfolio’s annual production. Paul also highlighted our positive impact in the country, including a 97.8% local employment rate, over US$3.1 billion spent on local suppliers since 2011, and more than US$1.44 billion paid to the State of Mauritania since 2010.

“At Kinross, we believe mining is not just about extracting resources, but also about creating opportunities to support communities, and building a sustainable future together,” said Paul.

Paul later visited the Tasiast booth at the exhibition where he met with the Mauritanian Minister of Mines and Industry and the Mauritanian Minister of Economy and Finance, Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, to discuss our long-term partnership with Mauritania and ways to further develop new prospects for collaboration.

In addition to Kinross’ attendance at the conference, we were proud to be a platinum sponsor of the event, reaffirming our long-term commitment to contributing to the economic and social development of Mauritania.
