This summer, Kinross Manh Choh hosted their fifth annual outreach BBQs in the Delta and Tok communities neighbouring the mine. These annual events are a staple in the communities and have been in effect since the early project phase in an effort to demonstrate our commitment to being an active and responsible community partner.
This year’s events brought together approximately 1,000 attendees who engaged with our workforce and gained a better understanding of the operation and Kinross as a Company.
In addition to learning about Manh Choh, the barbecues are an opportunity for employees to bring their familes to mingle with community members and learn about what their loved ones do at the mine. The barbecues also offer fun activities for children including gold panning, bouncy castles, face painting, and mining-inspired fun including remote-controlled mining equipment games and a core sample booth.
"Our annual community BBQs are about more than good food and fun – they’re about building relationships," said Patrick Filbin, Operations Director, Manh Choh. "These events give us the chance to connect directly with our neighbours, listen to their feedback, and celebrate the partnerships we share. It’s our way of saying 'thank you' for the support and trust placed in us year after year."
A special 'thank you' to all Kinross employees who came out to support the event and represent their departments – whether that be to provide more information on their area of expertise or to host a fun booth for attendees to participate in gold mining activities.
