We are excited to announce that Kinross Bald Mountain has received the ‘Excellence in Earthwork’ award as part of the 2025 Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards!
The Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards recognize reclamation projects in Nevada that are raising industry standards across three categories: Innovation in Revegetation Research, Excellence in Earthwork, and Leadership in Conservation Planning. Now in its 34th year, winners are selected by a committee of representatives from the Nevada Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Nevada Division of Minerals, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Kinross Bald Mountain received the award for reclamation earthworks performed on the Gator haul road and rock disposal areas following the completion of mining operations at Gator in 2022. Earthwork on the reclamation project began in 2023, and while still in early stages the reclamation techniques on the previous 120-foot wide haul road began to mimic pre-mining landscape, while the rock disposal areas now blend naturally into the landscape.
Representatives from Kinross Bald Mountain were excited to travel to Lake Tahoe this September to accept their sites award at the 2025 Nevada Mining Association (NvMA) Safety Awards dinner.
Check out photos below from the ongoing reclamation work at the former Gator haul road and rock disposal areas, and from the Bald Mountain team accepting their award at the NvMA Awards dinner below:
