In June, Kinross Tasiast celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity and World Environment Day by planting over 4,600 trees on site!
Employees volunteered their time to participate in this initiative which included the donation of over 1,900 trees from local partners. The initiative is part of the #GreenTasiast program which aims to restore areas of vegetation on site, and has since restored 6.5 hectares with an additional 5.5 hectares planned to be expanded on.
“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in this initiative,” said
Afjal Hashim
,
Vice-President and General Manager, Tasiast
. “Your dedication and team spirit exemplify Tasiast’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Each tree planted is a testament to the strength of our shared commitment.”
In addition to the tree planting campaign, Tasiast is working on developing a ‘green belt’ surrounding camp by composting food waste to turn it into valuable resources for the future.
