We are excited to announce that our La Coipa mine in Chile has received the ISO 50001 certification for its energy management systems – the first Kinross operation to achieve this recognition!

ISO 50001 was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is an internationally recognized voluntary standard that gives organizations a structured framework to manage energy. ISO 50001 integrates energy efficiency into management practices to increase awareness of energy use, reinforce good energy management behaviours and make better use of existing energy-consuming assets and processes.

La Coipa received the ISO 50001 certification after a two-stage audit that confirmed compliance with the system on site and identified areas for improvement including monitoring performance indicators, traceability in procurement, and strengthening energy assessments.

“ISO 50001 certification marks an important milestone for La Coipa and Kinross Chile. Not only are we making progress in complying with national regulations, we are also establishing a solid foundation for continuing to manage our energy resources more efficiently,” said Felipe Montenegro, Environment and Water Resources Manager, La Coipa. “I deeply appreciate the commitment and collaborative work of all areas involved who led this process with professionalism and a long-term vision.”

In addition to the energy improvements established during the audit, key performance strengths were highlighted including leadership, team cohesion and energy system management controls. These results reinforce La Coipa’s commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement and operational sustainability.
