In April, Kinross Brazil was excited to welcome a delegation of leadership from our corporate headquarters to Paracatu for a three-day visit focused on leadership and health and safety.

The delegation included Claude Schimper, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, and Afjal Hashim, Senior Vice-President, South America, who met with employees and site leadership to review their successful year in 2025. They also discussed the strategies in place to maintain momentum into the second quarter and beyond, as well as the role of safety, leadership, mentorship and efficiency.

“Our people are the fulcrum of our Company, and their success depends on their leaders’ examples,” said Claude. “Management in the field can help adjust strategies, improve processes and monitor employees with a focus on the principles of our global safety initiative – Safeground – and operational excellence across all areas of the site.”

In addition to Claude and Afjal’s visit, Kinross’ new head of health and safety, Steve Wrixon, Global Vice-President, Health and Safety, and Helisangela Alencar, Global Director, Health and Safety, attended the visit to get a first-hand look at the operation. They met with leadership from various departments during a site tour to discuss each department’s goals, challenges and initiatives anticipated for 2026 to find ways they can be supported by the corporate team to maintain their strong safety record.

“It was a pleasure to visit Paracatu! Seeing the operation first-hand and engaging directly with employees and leadership on the ground reinforced the strong safety culture already in place on site,” said Steve. “As we look ahead to 2026, our goal is to ensure every department has the support they need to continue strengthening their safety culture and sustaining their impressive performance for another year.”
