On March 8th, we marked International Women’s Day, an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide and to recognize the accomplishments of the women of Kinross across our global operations.
Each site found new, creative ways to celebrate the occasion and the women who make up our workforce over the course of the month. Check out what each of our sites did to celebrate below:
Alaska
In Alaska, the team celebrated both at Kinross and throughout Interior Alaska by finding ways to uplift, support and inspire women.
Representatives from Kinross Alaska volunteered at the Alaska Resource Education and Farthest North Girl Scout Council Women’s Career Expo to showcase careers in mining and encourage young women to pursue roles across the industry. The team then joined local mining companies at a celebration in Fairbanks to bring community members together to recognize the women who help power Alaska’s resource sector and its communities.
On site, employees received sweet treats while participating in a female CPR Awareness session to learn and promote life-saving aid for women during emergencies and ensure everyone receives access to care when it matters most.
Lastly, in Tok, employees joined a local community leader who spoke on volunteerism, leadership and education in alignment with this year’s IWD theme #GiveToGain. The team also collected donations of cell phones for the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living to support survivors of domestic violence and ensure they have access to safe communication and critical resources.
Nevada
In Nevada, the team welcomed the President of the Nevada Mining Association, Amanda Hilton, to share her journey in the mining industry. Amanda spoke about the challenges she faced in her career and the determination and resilience that helped her advance into leadership roles within the industry. The event also included remarks from Dan Kovall, Process Maintenance Superintendent, Round Mountain, who reflected on the positive impact women have made in his career and the important contributions they have made to the workforce.
Employees also received ‘Thank You’ cards for their hard work and dedication to the operation, as well as cookies with inspirational International Women’s Day messages.
Kettle River
At Kettle River, all employees received commemorative ‘International Women’s Day’ cookies from local, female-owned businesses in Republic as a sign of our support for not only women, but the local businesses within the communities where we operate.
Great Bear
At Great Bear, the team hosted the 3rd Annual International Women’s Day dinner for employees as a reminder of the important role women are playing in developing the project and the progress that has been made across the industry in supporting workplaces where every employee has the opportunity to thrive.
Toronto
At our corporate headquarters in Toronto, Canada, employees attended a candid ‘Ask Me Anything’ session with Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members Andrea Freeborough, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, and Kathleen Grandy, Executive Vice-President, Human Resources.
Attendees had the opportunity to get an inside look at our female leaders’ journeys in the industry and the various challenges, lessons and perspectives they have gained along the way to build resilience, develop their careers and lead with impact. The conversation was an opportunity to connect, engage and inspire both the women and men at Kinross in Toronto.
Paracatu
At Paracatu, a special edition of the ‘Kinross Family Visits’ was hosted in recognition of International Women’s Day. Female employees were encouraged to invite their family members to the mine site to get a closer look at the operation, and to connect our employees and their families through shared experiences by giving them a firsthand look at their loved one’s day-to-day tasks and the benefits women are bringing to the workforce at Paracatu.
In addition to the family visits, the team hosted a social media campaign dedicated to female employees who shared their stories, experiences, and journeys in the mining industry to inspire the next generation of women in mining.
Chile
In Chile, employees participated in a seminar hosted by a motivational speaker to learn more about women’s leadership, and the benefits of female leaders within the workforce. Later, employees attended a complimentary yoga session and participated in karaoke to build on their team dynamic, and strengthen bonds between participants.
In addition to the celebratory events, a campaign dedicated to highlighting the Women of Kinross and their accomplishments was featured across Kinross Chile’s social media channels, and all female employees received a gift on site.
Las Palmas
At our regional office in Las Palmas, employees showed their support for International Women’s Day with special ‘purple’ t-shirts to symbolize their allyship and to recognize the Women of Kinross, their accomplishments and the value they bring to the workforce.
In addition to showing their support, the team is actively raising funds in support of local women’s organizations under the spirit of this year’s theme of #GiveToGain.
Tasiast
At Tasiast, the team celebrated International Women’s Day during our Board of Directors' trip to the site at the end of March where several events were held to honour the women of Kinross. The events included a celebratory dinner that featured a video highlighting the women of Tasiast and their contributions to the operation over the last decade. This was followed by a short walk through a traditional tent, marking the transition from a formal dinner to an immersive Mauritanian cultural experience hosted by 15 female employees who presented attendees with traditional Mauritanian tea and treats before the main event began. During this event, brief presentations were held by the Women’s Committee, Production and People’s departments to share their roles and what working at Tasiast means to each representative. The event concluded with a traditional performance, followed by a group photo and presentation of commemorative gifts to board members.
In addition to the celebration with Kinross’ Board of Directors, each department competed in a decorating competition to showcase their support for International Women’s Day with purple colours and inspirational messages in their workspaces.
A larger-scale event involving all Tasiast employees will take place in June when they celebrate ‘Women in Mining Day’ in Mauritania.
Thank you to all employees who participated in this year’s International Women’s Day events! We look forward to continuing to celebrate the Women of Kinross, their accomplishments and contributions to the workforce throughout 2026!
