As a Mine Planning Engineer, how is your role different in the United States compared to Chile?

When I first started as a Trainee Engineer in Maricunga, I was involved with various aspects of the mine planning process. After this position, I was immersed in the operation side of the mine as a short-term mine planner for about two years. Following that period, I moved up to long-term planning. As a long-term mine planning engineer, my main responsibilities included reserves and resources estimation, mine designs, fleet estimations, budget, and strategic business planning.

At Round Mountain, my work focused on short to medium-term mine planning. So I’m involved in tasks such as quarterly forecasts, mine designs, production scheduling, fleet estimation, and supporting long-term planning as needed.
