Pictured here: the tag board at Kettle River-Buckhorn (KRB). Tag boards are used around the world to track and identify miners working underground. Each miner turns his/her tag on the “‘in” side when they start their shift (called “brassing” or “tagging in”), and then turns it to the “out” side when they return to surface (“tagging” or “brassing out”). At some mines (like KRB), miners carry a copy of their tag in their pocket in the event of an underground accident.
