Reducing repairs through innovation

Employees: Dvoinoye’s Underground (UG) Maintenance team

Problem: The EJC 430 UG haul truck has to be repaired on a regular basis due to rocks that fall on its exposed steering cylinder while being loaded.

Suggestion: The UG maintenance team’s mechanics developed a cover to protect the top of the cylinder from falling rocks, which cost approximately US $150. As a result, repairs were no longer necessary and covers were placed on all haul trucks with exposed cylinders.

Result: The project has saved approximately US $18,000 in maintenance work and spare parts.
