Promoting Mining to Russia’s Youth

“This sponsorship underscores Kinross’ commitment to mining education, and helps promote mining as a profession to the young generation in Russia.”
Lou Naumovski (Vice-President & General Director, Moscow Representative Office).

In March, Kinross co-sponsored the Annual Open Geology Competition at Moscow State University. This is the fifth consecutive year Kinross has sponsored the event, which aims to cultivate talented young geologists, and promote geology in schools.

The 2015 competition attracted more than 480 students (14 – 16 years of age), representing 17 regions across Russia. The participants tested their knowledge in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, geography, engineering, the environment and other areas, and prizes and certificates were awarded to the top 15 contestants.

Anna Sorokina won the competition’s grand prize – an iPad sponsored by Kinross. Other winners were presented with backpacks, portable GPS-receivers and flashlights, all of which were also provided by Kinross.
