The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation located in northwestern Mauritania, approximately 300 kilometres north of the capital Nouakchott. Tasiast recently completed its Phase One expansion, and announced it is proceeding with the Tasiast 24k project, which is expected to increase production and reduce costs.
Tasiast provides $250,000 of emergency assistance to local communities
Kinross Tasiast recently donated US$250,000 to provide emergency assistance to the Guidimaka and Inchiri communities in Mauritania. The communities were most affected by severe rainfall that resulted in flooding and loss of property and supplies earlier this year.
