Round Mountain celebrates opening of Phase W infrastructure facility

On August 13, Round Mountain hosted a celebration for the grand opening of the Phase W infrastructure facility that was recently commissioned.

The celebration was attended by Paul TomoryExecutive Vice-President and Chief Technical OfficerMike SylvestreSenior Vice-President, Americas Operations, senior leadership from contractors Cashman and Sundt, and over 300 Round Mountain employees.

“I’m very proud of the team at Round Mountain and their accomplishments at Phase W,” said Mike SylvestreSenior Vice-President, Americas Operations. “The team was able to deliver ahead of schedule, and safely, which is a top priority at Kinross. Congratulations to everyone involved in this accomplishment!”

The celebration included a tour of the facility and an appreciation barbecue for employees and contractors involved in the project.

The facility includes a new truck shop, ALPM shop, warehouse, and wash bay.  The facility is large enough to allow truck beds to fully extend which allows for transmission repairs indoors. This will reduce engine change out times by three days and provide significant cost savings.

“One of the primary advantages of this project was identifying what needed to be improved at our previous truck shop and implementing solutions for the Phase W shop,” said Chris SwansonMaintenance Manager, Round Mountain. “The layout is a big part of that, as having everything under one roof or within walking distance gives us the opportunity to do things efficiently and safely.”
