Kinross Chile awards geology scholarship for 22nd straight year

For the 22nd year in a row, Kinross Chile presented its annual scholarship to a local geology student, a testament to our dedication to education and community support.

Pilar Smith Valdivia, a student at the University of Atacama in Copiapó, was presented with the scholarship in July. The scholarship, which was named in memory of Fernando Llanos Briceño, a Kinross employee who tragically died in a car accident, has been awarded to one student who excels academically every year since 1993.

A ceremony was held to present the award to Pilar Smith with the local Mayor, Miguel Vargas Correa, José Tomás Letelier, Vice-President External Affairs and Guillermo Contreras, Manager, Corporate Responsibility and Community Relations.

“We are fortunate to be operating in the Atacama region and want to continue to contribute to the community and support the next generation of mining leaders. We encourage education in the mining sector and have our doors open at Kinross for exceptional students like Pilar Smith,” said Guillermo Contreras, Manager of Corporate Responsibility and Community Relations.

Pilar Smith was grateful for the scholarship. “Thank you to Kinross for this incredible scholarship. I promise to continue to work hard in my geology studies.”
