World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Russia recently headed to Russia’s Far East to get a first-hand look at our Kupol and Dvoinoye operations.
The WWF team commended Kinross for its environmental monitoring programs involving the local communities, plans to launch biodiversity projects in Chukotka, and the Dvoinoye tailings dam reclamation results.
The ecologists from WWF had a guided tour of the mill, tailings dam and dry-stack tailings facilities, water treatment plants and diesel power plants. They also met with the Health and Safety and Corporate Responsibility teams to discuss ongoing responsible mining initiatives in the region.
We are honoured to welcome WWF to our operations to demonstrate our commitment to responsible mining and improving the communities where we operate. We received positive feedback for our efforts to minimize our environmental footprint and look to continue our relationship with the respected organization.
Kinross Russia recently made the top three in 2019 WWF Russia’s Environmental Transparency Ranking of Russian mining and metals companies. In 2018, and in 2017, Kinross Russia received first place under their environmental responsibility rating of mining and metals companies.
