In mid-May, we launched our new ‘COVID Champions’ employee recognition program to celebrate employees across our global operations who are making a difference during this pandemic, and finding innovative ways to support their colleagues, the Company and their community.
The program aims to recognize employees who are going above and beyond to make positive contributions in the areas of health and safety, innovation, community support and increasing team morale during this challenging time.
Our first Champion is Fernando Goncalves Netto, Mobile Maintenance Programmer, Paracatu, who has been recognized for launching a community support initiative called ‘Friends of Good’. The initiative focuses on providing aid to vulnerable community members especially impacted by COVID-19.
Fernando created the group after learning of the challenges community members were facing during the pandemic, and organized volunteers who work together to deliver food, face coverings, hand sanitizer, hygienic supplies, clothing and blankets to those in need. In addition to donations, the group also supports community members with accessing government aid programs and collecting construction materials in a joint effort to build homes for those living in poor conditions.
‘Friends of Good’ now has over 90 volunteers – 70 of which are Paracatu employees – and has supported over 650 members in the community. Congratulations on this great initiative Fernando!
If you know someone who is making a positive impact in the areas of health and safety, innovation, community support or increase team morale, contact your site or office management to recognize this individual as a COVID Champion for Kinross!
