In mid-May, we launched the COVID-19 Champions program as a global employee recognition initiative dedicated to celebrating those who are making a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic by finding innovative ways to support their colleagues, the Company and the community.
The program aims to recognize employees who are going above and beyond to make a positive contribution in the areas of health and safety, innovation, community support and increasing team morale.
This week, we feature Lara Perez, Expatriate Affairs & Immigration Specialist, from our Las Palmas office, who has been recognized for providing support to expatriates and their families working out of our regional office during COVID-19.
In March, Spain entered a total lockdown as the virus rapidly spread throughout the country. The lockdown prevented residents from leaving their homes except for purchasing groceries, mandatory work, or emergency services. The government and news agencies were issuing constant communications, and Lara recognized the challenges non-Spanish speaking expatriates may be facing during this uncertain time. She took it upon herself to begin drafting communications that summarized the latest news and updates in employees’ native languages and circulated these proactively, even during off hours.
Several employees reported that these communications became their primary source of information and provided a sense of comfort and clarity during a challenging time. Lara’s communications kept over 100 employees and their families informed and reduced levels of stress and anxiety thanks to her consistent support.
“Lara took on this task without being asked because she truly cares about her colleagues and wanted to ensure they had adequate access to necessary information,” said Adrian Castro, Regional HR Business Partner, Las Palmas. “Her support is a testament to her character and exemplifies the values of a COVID-19 Champion. We are lucky to have her as part of our Las Palmas family.”
