Kinross Chirano provides scholarship to 30 students

Kinross Chirano recently held a ceremony to present 30 students from communities surrounding the mine with scholarships.

Twenty-four students received scholarships through the Sefwiman Foundation and six students received the General Manager’s Scholarship. A combined total of CAD$25,000 will go towards the scholarships that will cover school fees,  accommodations and a monthly stipend for the duration of the students’ post-secondary education.

Terence Watungwa, Vice-President and General Manager, Chirano, presented the students with their scholarships and spoke about Kinross’ commitment to helping improve education in the area.

“Chirano Gold Mine recognizes education as an essential element in community advancement and will continue to use our resources to provide support for the community,” said Terence. “These scholarships will help further higher education in Ghana, which is critical to the socio-economic transformation of society. We look forward to continuing to grow the Sefwiman Foundation.”

The Chirano Sefwiman Foundation was established in 2020 with a mission to provide lasting benefits to the over 30,000 community members in Chirano. The foundation received an initial investment of $2 million to develop programs supporting education, healthcare, economic empowerment, water and sanitation management and various other issues based on community needs.
