Kinross Brasil recently signed an agreement to provide US$200,000 (R$1 million) to support Paracatu’s healthcare system in the fight against COVID-19.
The donation will provide funds to refurbish the Saint Lucia Hospital in Paracatu into an active COVID-19 care centre for the community. The centre will host 35 patient beds and be equipped with supplies for treatment and recovery, specifically for patients with respiratory distress.
“This agreement will provide vital support to the Paracatu community during this challenging time,” said Ana Cunha, Government Relations, Social Responsibility, Communications and Community Relations Director, Paracatu. “The centre will increase access to medical care and supplies in the region. We are pleased to be able to use our resources to make this contribution and will continue to find ways to support the community where we can.”
Since the start of the pandemic, Kinross Brasil has donated over US$625,000 (R$3.5 million) to the city of Paracatu to provide COVID-19 protective equipment, over 6,000 rapid test kits, and life-saving respirators to local medical centres. The team has also worked together to raise funds for the local food bank to ensure vulnerable families have adequate food supplies during the pandemic.
