Kinross recently awarded two undergraduate students in Canada a $5,000CAD scholarship as part of the Young Mining Professionals scholarship!
Congratulations Rebecca Lord – a fourth-year, Earth Science student specializing in Hydrogeology at the University of Waterloo and Aidan Bowe – a fifth-year, Mining Engineering student at the University of Alberta’s Engineer Co-op Program.
The students were selected after completing an essay based on one of Kinross’ four values that they live by in their professional and day-to-day lives, followed by a one-hour interview session with our expert panel consisting of five representatives from our Business Optimization, Operations and Technical Strategy, Metallurgy and Global Talent Acquisition teams.
During the panel session, the students gave a presentation on their experience in the industry and career aspirations, followed by pitching an emerging technology and why it should be implemented at Kinross. After their presentations, the students had a 30-minute Q&A session with our expert panel.
“There was some great applicants for this year’s Young Mining Professionals award and we had some tough choices to make for our scholarship recipients,” said Mark Hannay, Senior Manager Business Optimization, Toronto. “While there was some great competition, Aidan and Rebecca demonstrated both knowledge of the industry and their future goals and aspirations. We believe they have an exciting future ahead and will be outstanding additions to the mining community.”
