Kinross Tasiast recently welcomed their new Vice-President and General Manager, Gavin Ferguson to the mine. Gavin joined the Tasiast team in October and brings with him more than 30 years of global mining experience and expertise.
Most recently, Gavin was the Vice-President and General Manager of our Kupol mine in Russia.
Since joining the team, Gavin has implemented weekly ‘Safety Stand Down’ sessions during which Tasiast’s supervisors, business partners and the health and safety team discuss best practices and challenges for the week ahead. The sessions represent an opportunity to work cross-functionally and ensure all necessary actions are taking place to mitigate risks.
During the first session on October 8th, Gavin introduced himself to the team and shared his approach to health, safety and team work. Gavin stressed his commitment to building on the mine’s existing safety culture and continuing to grow training and development programs available to employees.
“The launch of the Safety Stand Down initiative represents a cross-functional opportunity for our Tasiast team to collaboratively identify potential areas we can improve on,” said Mohamed Salem Soueilim, Safety Superintendent, Tasiast. “Safety and team work go hand-in-hand, and we are excited to continue safely executing our tasks with Gavin leading our team!”
