In 2011, Jonathan joined Kinross as a trainee engineer at Maricunga where he was recognized for his strong performance and commitment to continuous improvement initiatives. In 2016, he began leading the remediation area of La Coipa where he was quickly promoted to Superintendent.
Once Jonathan became superintendent, he began working with his team to minimize the environmental impacts of the osmosis plant by brainstorming strategies for transformative bioremediation studies.
Together, the team was able to develop a solution that will reduce the remediation process from 190 years to 60 years by replacing the current source area treatment processes with native microorganisms.
This solution is one of several continuous improvement initiatives Jonathan has spearheaded to minimize the environmental impacts of our mining operations. Jonathan is committed to environmental stewardship and believes that by being a responsible miner, we are benefitting the overall health and safety of both our colleagues and the communities where we operate.
“Jonathan deserves to be recognized for his accomplishments and dedication to the environment, safety, teamwork, as well as the inventiveness and loyalty with which he conducts himself,” said Guillermo Olivares, General Manager, La Coipa. “His peers would describe him as a clear example of dedication, good judgement and leadership, and a contributor who has improved the historical performance of the Company.”
