It’s official! Bald Mountain’s 3,097 acre expansion was approved by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on August 17th, 2016. The decision allows us to expand existing gold mine facilities and construct and operate new facilities at Bald Mountain’s North and South areas.
“We are really excited. The original plan was submitted in October 2011, so it has been a long process and we are glad to finally hit the ground running,” said Josh Roderick, Environmental Manager, Bald Mountain.
“Within an hour of receiving the permit, we had bulldozers out in the field at Redbird, an undeveloped pit at the site,” continued Josh. “We mean business.”
The permits provides significant flexibility for future growth, such as additional heap leach capacity and a carbon adsorption plant beyond what is required in the current mine plan.
It will also allow for increased exploration activities, including modest infill and metallurgical drilling needed to potentially increase the mine’s mineral reserve estimate. The focus is developing two sets of deposits, the Vantage Complex in the South area, and the Saga and Duke pits in the North area. Developing these deposits may substantially increase the current 1.1 million Au oz. mineral reserve estimate at Bald Mountain and extend life of mine.
