This summer, Kinross’ mine rescue teams from Bald Mountain and Round Mountain participated in the 36th annual Mine Rescue Olympiad held in Winnemucca, Nevada, that brought together 12 mine rescue teams from Wyoming, Utah and Nevada to showcase their skills and compete for top scores.
Over the course of three days, the teams participated in a series of written tests, team-building exercises, skill rotations and field scenarios to test their ability to respond during a mine-rescue situation.
We are excited to announce that Kinross Nevada was the highest placing mine rescue team from Nevada, with Bald Mountain and Round Mountain receiving second and third place overall, respectively, and Round Mountain placing first in the Fire Station Award, and Bald Mountain placing second in ‘Field Day – A Flight’.
The Olympiad was attended by Kinross employees and family members including Joe Kemp, Vice-President and General Manager, Kinross Nevada, who came out to support our Nevada teams during the competition.
“I am incredibly proud of the entire Kinross Nevada team. While we all focus on going home safely every day, these men and women donate their time and are the people who show up time and time again to make sure we all get home safe,” said Nicole Woods, Safety Superintendent, Round Mountain. “Congratulations and thank you to every member of our Kinross Nevada Rescue Teams and Emergency Responders, your service and dedication is appreciated.”
“I felt an overwhelming sense of pride watching our Kinross Bald Mountain and Round Mountain teams at the Olympiad – they showed up strong to represent Kinross, were technically sound and professional, and demonstrated great teamwork and communication,” said Nicole Manire, Health and Safety Specialist, Bald Mountain. “I would also like to extend a thank you to Turquoise Ridge and Winnemucca Events Centre for putting on this event and doing an excellent job executing it.”
