See what Kinross Tasiast employees have to say about the HOP and OLT training program!

In May 2024, we announced the launch of Kinross’ new Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and Operational Learning Teams (OLT) training program.

The program is designed to optimize both individual and collective performance within our organization by empowering the employees on the ground with the skills they need to identify and mitigate risks, enhance decision-making processes and to foster a culture of accountability. In order to drive the implementation of the program. OLT’s have been established at each site to harness the collective intelligence of our workforce, and to promote cross-functional collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Since the programs launch, several sites including our Tasiast mine in Mauritania have taken part in the three-day training program to gain a greater awareness of how they can support their team and establish a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.

“As we continue on our HOP & OLT principles journey at Tasiast, the focus has shifted towards identifying and addressing systemic issues rather than a discipline and blame based culture. Though we are not moving away from accountability, this shift has not only enhanced our safety engagement but also significantly boosted employee morale. Workers are encouraged to feel valued and empowered to contribute to safety solutions, knowing their insights are critical to preventing future incidents,” said Afjal Hashim, Vice-President and General Manager, Kinross Tasiast. “The collaborative nature of Learning Teams has facilitated open dialogue and shared responsibility, leading to more robust and sustainable safety practices. Overall, this approach has proven to be more effective and appreciated approach as we continue to create a safer and more resilient workplace.”
