Cheikh – Mohamed Khouana-El Kherchi, Survey Technician 3, Tasiast

Cheikh joined Kinross in 2012 and has been recognized for his proactive leadership and efficient problem-solving skills that have not only made the workplace safer, but also more efficient.

An example of Cheikh’s vigilant reporting and proactive identification of solutions to reduce hazards occurred in the stock dump area. Cheikh noted discrepancies in beam height and levelling, the rectification of which reduced the potential for serious accidents and earned him the Safety Champion award at Kinross Tasiast in 2023.

Cheikh also put forward a solution to reduce wait time associated with airspace clearance in the field. Working with the security team to streamline approval requests, clearance times were reduced by 30 minutes per operation.

“Cheikh is constantly meeting standards from an operational and safety perspective and brings forth new ideas and improvements that help us operate more safely and effectively.”
