This summer, Kinross Alaska hosted ‘Family Day’ at Fort Knox and Manh Choh to give employees the opportunity to take their family to work and learn more about the day-to-day operations of a mining Company.
Over 1,400 visitors attended Fort Knox where they participated in site tours that featured observing pit operations from the overlook, touring the mill facility, and getting an up-close look at some of our heavy-duty equipment and vehicles.
At Manh Choh, the team was excited to host their first-ever Family Day which brought over 75 visitors to the site for a look at Kinross’ new Alaska operation! Visitors were driven to the highest point of the site to get an overview of Manh Choh, followed by visiting the infrastructure pad to watch as Kiewit and Black Gold Transport performed daily operations.
In addition to site tours, visitors participated in activities and stopped by information booths led by our diverse teams to learn more about the mining process and our commitment to health and safety, environmental stewardship, community investment and socioeconomic impact.
A special take home for visitors was given out at the environment booth, where they were given ‘reclamation seed packets’ and instructions for how to recreate the reclamation process at their own homes in an effort to share how mining operations reclaim land once operations conclude.
