Nouakchott takes part in ‘Lets Plant a Tree’ initiative to fight desertification

Last week, employees from Tasiast and Nouakchott took part in the “Lets Plant a Tree” initiative to help reduce desertification in the country.

The two part project is part of a nation-wide effort in Mauritania to combat desertification, with part one involving employees planting 13 trees in front of the Kinross guesthouse in Nouakchott.

Part two of the project is expected to involve more than 100 Kinross employees planting about 300 trees across the green belt zone that surrounds Nouakchott to prevent sand dunes from advancing toward the city.

“We are happy to work on a project that brings employees together and work toward a common goal while improving our environment and fighting against desertification,” said Daniel Marini, Vice President & General Manager, Tasiast. “It’s great to be part of this national effort and to contribute in any way we can.”
