On July 4th, Round Mountain marked the United States’ 242nd birthday with their annual community picnic in Nevada.
This year’s Independence Day picnic brought together over 1,300 people including employees and their families and local community members.
“The Independence Day picnic is a long-standing tradition that community members look forward to each year. It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday while giving our neighbours the opportunity to be a part of our family while learning about the mining industry,” said Mary Wootton, Senior Human Resource Supervisor, Round Mountain.
The day, which kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony by the local American Legion Chapter during the national anthem, was packed with events and activities for participants of all ages. Children played carnival games, in a bouncy castle and even got to ride a mechanical bull! A ‘fishing derby’ brought together 150 participants and those who caught the three largest fish won a special prize.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore a 793F Haul Truck and pan for real gold. To help commemorate Kinross’ 25th anniversary, a raffle for a ‘25th Anniversary Haul Truck Quilt’ took place later in the day.
“Each year we look forward to Kinross’ Independence Day picnic. Our children love seeing all the mining equipment and participating in the various events and activities,” said a local community member. “We are grateful to have Kinross as a neighbour and for all they do to give back to our community.”
