Bald Mountain partnered with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) to host a Kids Fishing Day for students at a local Elko school at the Cold Creek Reservoir.
Sixty students and their teachers attended the event supported by seven representatives from the NDOW and volunteers from Bald Mountain. The students learned about various fish populations in Nevada, and how the NDOW and Bald Mountain Environmental Department work to protect and enhance their habitat.
Students watched as the NDOW re-stocked the reservoir with a new batch of fish, then broke out into pairs to fish for large-mouth bass.
“Kids Fishing Day was a mix of outdoor education and recreation. Cold Creek Reservoir is a great place to share with local students so they can experience the nature in their own backyards,” said Joe Doucette, Conservation Educator, Nevada Department of Wildlife. “We are very grateful for the time, energy and help Kinross has dedicated for this event and to our organization.”
The event received such positive reviews by students, teachers and parents that Bald Mountain and the NDOW plan to make this an annual event.
“Today was an opportunity to talk with students and teachers about the local environment and what we do at Bald to protect it,” said Kyle Hawkins, Environmental Permit Engineer, Bald Mountain. “The students were engaged, excited and looking forward to the opportunity to participate next year!”
