Partnership with Project C.U.R.E. Continues Medical Programs in Mauritania

Since 2012, Kinross Tasiast Mauritania has donated five 40 ft.-shipping containers of vital medical supplies to hospitals in Mauritania, with a total valued at US$2.5 million. This month, we delivered our fifth and final container to the region in partnership with Project C.U.R.E – a U.S.-based NGO dedicated to delivering the world’s most resource-starved medical facilities with donated medical supplies, equipment, and program services.

“As a company that values health and wellbeing of its employees and the communities in which we operate, we are proud to be a part of the medical donation program with Project C.U.R.E.,” says Patrick Hickey (Regional Vice President, Kinross Africa).

The medical program was a collaborative effort between Project C.U.R.E, Kinross and Mauritania’s Ministry of Health. The medical supplies included: defibrillators, centrifuge machines, an autoclave, hospital beds, wheelchairs bandages, tubes, and dressings. All the equipment was shared among three main hospitals and 10 health centres in the regions of Nouadhibou, Nouakchott and Inchiri.

In 2014, Kinross plans to donate and deliver two additional shipping containers of medical supplies to Mauritania’s most impoverished regions. We also plan to continue our partnership with Project C.U.R.E. by helping to implement “Helping Babies Breathe”, an evidence-based educational program to teach neonatal resuscitation techniques in resource-limited areas.
