A Hydraulic Shovel’s Journey to Round Mountain

Round Mountain recently welcomed a new $8.5 million CAT 6060 hydraulic shovel to its fleet of equipment. Weighing in at a slim 627 tons, the shovel arrived in 23 truckloads from our Tasiast mine by way of Belgium and California. It took 950 man hours to assemble the shovel, which can move up to 4,300 tons of ore per hour with its 36.8 cubic yard bucket.

The shovel was purchased from our Tasiast site and is expected to be a valuable piece of equipment for Round Mountain.

Led by the Maintenance Department, the project was a coordinated effort involving several Round Mountain departments and suppliers to successfully complete the complex work needed for shipping and assembly.
