We are excited to announce the 2023 winners of the CEO and COO Safety Awards – congratulations Bald Mountain and Tasiast!
Bald Mountain was awarded the CEO Safety Award for its people-focused health and safety philosophy that encourages frontline engagement and incorporates several initiatives developed by the site. Bald Mountain was also recognized for their outstanding safety record in 2023, and their top scores received at the 2023 Nevada Mining Association (NvMA) Awards.
“This award represents excellent teamwork by Bald Mountain in engaging the workforce to focus on our top priority – our people,” said Joe Kemp, Vice-President and General Manager, Kinross Nevada. “I am proud to work with and be a member of this excellent team.”
Tasiast was awarded the COO Safety Award for its leadership as the first site to implement the global Safety Excellence Program and the local employee steering group for driving its success. Tasiast was also recognized for innovations related to its fire protection systems, including improvements to inspection and maintenance practices, and the implementation of a health and safety support team – ‘The Green Team’ – that focused on working with employees to have a successful, injury-free scheduled plant shutdown in 2023.
Claude Schimper, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, presented members of the Tasiast team with their award during a celebratory dinner at the site to commemorate their achievements.
