Kinross Chile recently participated in the launch of an initiative promoting women in the mining industry working alongside the Chilean Ministry of Mines, the Ministry of Women, and mining companies in Chile including, Anglo American, Barrick Gold and Teck Resources.
The Women in Mining program includes 10 principles that encourage companies to embrace flexibility, work-life balance, career development, and a recruitment strategy focusing on increasing diversity.
“The 10 principles address barriers preventing women from starting a career in a male-dominated industry,” said Rodrigo Moscoso, General Manager, Chile. “Women are an important part of the community in Chile and we want them to have equal representation in the mining industry.”
A ceremony took place at ‘La Moneda,’ the government palace in Chile, at the end of 2018 to celebrate the launch of the program. Government officials attended the event, including Baldo Prokurica, Minister of Mines, Pablo Terrazas, Undersecretary of Mines, and Carolina Cuevas, Undersecretary of Women.
