Congratulations to Chirano Gold Mines Limited (CGML) who recently completed the transition to self-perform mining of its underground operations.
In an employee meeting on March 31, Ken Norris (Vice-President & General Manager, Chirano) officially announced the Company’s takeover of the underground operations. The transition to owner-operation will allow Chirano to reinvest and find more gold reserves, while creating employment opportunities for local communities. The occasion was also used to welcome new employees, and encourage them to embrace Kinross’ four core values and the Kinross Way Forward.
“The move to self-perform is part of our Kinross Way Forward goals of higher productivity and lowering costs at Chirano,” says Ken. “I want to thank everyone involved in the self-perform planning and execution of both our open pit and underground operations. Mines don’t exist without people and it takes smart, motivated, and skillful employees working safely and efficiently to make a successful gold mine.”
Chirano successfully transitioned to self-perform mining of its open pits on May 16, 2013.
