Continuing to Inspire Young Leaders in Russia’s Far North

Kinross Russia is sponsoring a Young Leaders School that aims to develop managerial and leadership skills among youth from far north communities near Kupol. Fourteen participants – under the age of 30 -took part in the second week-long session held in Bilibino in March. The session focused on improving organizational and leadership skills, promoting the culture and traditions of indigenous people of Chukotka, and wellness management. Participants also had the opportunity to meet with local government organizations and representatives.

As a result of this recent Young Leaders School session, participants took the initiative to implement a number of youth projects in their regions, such as creating a public youth organization and opening a sports club.

A co-project between the Association of Indigenous Minorities of Chukotka and Northern Gold LLC, the Young Leaders School program is being implemented in other districts of Chukotka. The program’s first session took place in the Chaun district in March 2013.
