It was a chilly day in Red Lake, Ontario, measuring in at -32 degrees celcius earlier this month, but that did not stop the Great Bear team from suiting up to participate in ice rescue training!
Great Bear’s head office sits along the waterfront in Red Lake, ON which freezes over in the winter and is commonly used as a mode of transportation for community members. Great Bear’s environment water quality sampling program also calls for on-ice work. Given the close proximity and operational needs, it is important for our team to know how to prevent an emergency and also be prepared to perform a rescue in the event of a fall of ice.
Captured above, the team gets comfortable in the icy, cold water while practicing rescue techniques by using ice picks to pull themselves out of the water. Great work to the Great Bear team!
