As part of our ongoing commitment to mining education, Kinross co-sponsored the Annual Open Geology Competition for students in Moscow for the fourth year in a row. Held in February, the competition’s goal is to promote and cultivate interest in geology among students.
More than 370 students from 14 regions in Russia participated in the annual competition. Egor Kolesnikov, a 5th grade student, won first place and an iPad donated by Kinross. Other winners received travelers’ kits, which included backpacks, flashlights and thermoses also donated by Kinross.
The annual event was hosted and organized by the Geology Faculty of Moscow State University, with the support of the Russian Geological Society, Russian State Geological University and Mineralogical Museum.
