Gold Winner:
Daniela Vasquez, Chemical Analyst, Chile
Daniela joined Kinross six years ago and was immediately recognized by her colleagues for her collaborative spirit, support and involvement in the community. This year, she received over 30% of Maricunga’s LOVA nominations!
Daniela was recognized by her colleagues for her environmental stewardship as she created and executed a plan to eliminate the use of plastic bags at Maricunga by implementing a reusable bags program.
Daniela developed a plan to reduce 1.5 tons of plastic used at the site each year, as employees typically used plastic bags for their meals each day. Daniela found all of the resources to make this idea a reality, including a campaign to promote the reusable bags.
The program was a success, attracting media attention from local newspapers as Maricunga became the first mine site in Chile to eliminate the use of plastic bags!
“Daniela did not just have an idea, she took action to positively impact her colleagues and our environment,” said Alberto Opazo, Site Manager, Maricunga. “Receiving such a large amount of nominations from her colleagues demonstrates that her presence was felt by Maricunga as a whole and that she has created change in our community.”
Daniela has set a precedent in developing environmental initiatives to improve the local community and environment, which has earned her this year’s gold award for Outstanding Corporate Citizenship!
