A long-time member of the Round Mountain maintenance team, DJ is dedicated to improving all maintenance programs at the site. His commitment to improving maintenance programs, coupled with his technical skills, make him an integral part of the site’s team.
In 2005, DJ joined Round Mountain as a Preventative Maintenance Mechanic and later became a truck shop worker, taking on the challenges of complicated equipment repairs.
DJ took on the responsibility of learning new equipment other than Caterpillar models. He became a site expert for Komatsu’s large wheel loaders (WA1200s) and developed preventative maintenance strategies to improve the availability and reliability of the machines, while reducing costs per hour.
His technical skill set and attention to detail has led to significant savings. In one instance, DJ noticed a drop in the oil supply and concluded that the problem was a result of the wrong oil being delivered to a bulk tank. DJ reported the issue, drained the tanks and refilled them with the correct oil. Had this transmission error not been noticed by DJ, advanced wear and tear would have caused early failure in the tanks.
“To say that DJ is a key member on the team is an understatement. He is a big part of reducing costs and our environmental impacts, while also extending our operating life at the same time,” said one of DJ’s nominators.
